Located just north of Surfers Paradise, Main Beach stretches toward The Spit and is known for its wide, open sandy shores. With breathtaking views of the city skyline to the south, this beach offers the perfect setting for beachgoers looking for space, relaxation, and adventure.

Swimming at Main Beach

Main Beach is patrolled by professional lifeguards year-round, ensuring a safe swimming environment. Always swim between the red and yellow flags, which mark designated safe areas.

  • Tower 39 (Breaker Street): Lifeguards on duty daily from 8 AM to 5 PM.
  • Tower 40 (Macarthur Parade): Located near the Southport Surf Life Saving Club, with lifeguards available from 8 AM to 5 PM every day.

Surfing Conditions

Main Beach is a popular surf spot, offering consistent waves along its entire stretch. However, wave quality varies depending on swell direction, wind, tide, and sandbanks. Before paddling out, surfers should assess conditions carefully. If unsure, it’s best to stay on shore. For up-to-date surf conditions, check the local surf reports.

The area also boasts well-maintained parklands with convenient amenities, including:

  • Toilets and beach showers
  • Barbecue and picnic facilities
  • Shaded seating areas
  • Playgrounds for families
  • Walking and cycling trails

Whether you’re looking to swim, surf, or simply unwind, Main Beach offers a fantastic coastal experience for locals and visitors alike.
