Mamma G’ S Deli Coolangatta
I popped in for a coffee and walked out with lunch, dinner and a bag of things I never planned to buy. That’s the magic of Mamma G’s Deli Coolangatta, an Italian corner deli, café and pantry from the Gambaro family.
Who is behind Mamma G’s Deli Coolangatta?
The Gambaros have been feeding Queenslanders for more than 70 years, and this newest opening takes things back to where it all began: family, food and Italian hospitality that won’t let you leave hungry. The name honours Joyce Gambaro, known to the family as Mamma G. It’s open from 5:30am, seven days a week, with the offering shifting as the day goes on.
What we ate
The focaccia is the star, so we went all in:
- Chicken Schnitzel Focaccia: chicken schnitzel, cheddar, confit garlic herb mayo, lettuce and pickles
- Mortadella & Stracciatella: pistachio cream, pistachio and rocket
- Chicken, Leek & Tarragon: chicken thigh, leek, tarragon and cream
- Pumpkin & Sage: pumpkin risotto, mozzarella, sage, slaw and tomato sugo
The gluten-free option was amazing, and nobody missed out. Coffee is Merlo, with ceremonial matcha, cold brew, and smoothies and juices pressed to order.
Dessert you can’t skip at Mamma G’s Deli
We finished with the Tiramisu, and it was just amazing. Savoiardi, mascarpone, espresso and cocoa, done the classic way. Don’t leave without one.
The heart of Mamma G’s
Behind the counter you’ll find artisan cheeses, premium salumi, antipasto, prepared salads and ready-to-enjoy meals, all sliced and served to order. Tell the team what you’re feeding and how many, and they’ll cut it, weigh it and wrap it while you wait. The shelves hold Italian pasta, tomatoes, olive oils, preserves and aperitifs, perfect for a proper dinner or a beach picnic.

Walk past the counter and the pantry shelves are a destination in themselves.
