Staff hand guests an orange jumpsuit and a new identity before they step into a set built to look like an actual cell block, complete with metal bars and a crackling prison radio. Alcotraz calls itself the world’s first prison-themed cocktail bar, but it’s less a themed venue and more a full immersive show that plays out around you, with actors staying in character as guards, wardens, and fellow “inmates” for the entire session.

Once guards process you into the cell block, the setup is straightforward. You hide contraband liquor, and the corrupt guards offer to help you smuggle it — for the right price or persuasion. The catch is the Warden, who watches the whole room and won’t hesitate to send anyone he catches to solitary. From there, the “prison canteen” bartenders mix up four rounds of cocktails (mocktails, beer, and wine are also on offer). How the night unfolds — whether your group helps plan an escape or informs on someone else — depends entirely on the choices you make along the way.
