The Laneway Burleigh: Modern Australian With Italian Soul

The Laneway Burleigh is the newest restaurant in Burleigh Heads on the Gold Coast, and it already feels like a local favourite. The menu is modern Australian with a clear Italian influence, designed for sharing. Order generously, pass the plates around and don’t worry about over-ordering. That’s the whole point.

The People Behind The Laneway Burleigh

The Laneway is the latest project from Shonel Alloway, the founder behind Nobby’s well-regarded venue The Arc Nobby’s. Joining her is Head Chef Jefferson King Koi, who also leads the kitchens at The Arc and Mr Nobby Beach.

Together, they’ve built something polished but approachable: elevated food without the formality. The result is a neighbourhood restaurant that feels like it’s been part of Burleigh for years.

Share Plates to Start

The share plates are where dinner should begin. The Salmon Crudo arrives in a citrus dill vinaigrette with pickled baby onion and fennel, and the King Prawns come sizzling in lemon beurre blanc. The Truffle Mushroom Arancini is worth ordering twice. The Seared Scallops, served with pea puree, yuzu butter and hazelnut praline, are among the best things on the menu.

Mains Worth Coming Back For

The Crispy Skin Pork Belly is a standout main, served with seeded mustard crème, rocket, parmesan, glazed cranberries and fig vincotto. It’s rich and fresh in equal measure. For something more substantial, the 200g Eye Fillet arrives with prosciutto-wrapped beans, tomato capsicum relish, smoked potato gateau and juniper jus. It feels like a special occasion dish, even on a Tuesday.

Pasta and Pizza at The Laneway Burleigh

Pasta fans are well looked after. Choose from a classic Carbonara, a prawn-loaded Gamberi Linguine, a hearty Laneway Bolognese, or the Pasta Al Funghi, which is truffle-heavy with sage beurre noisette and manchego. The pizza menu covers all the classics alongside signature creations, including the Laneway Pizza topped with king prawns, calabrese salami, jalapeños, feta and mushrooms. It’s bold, satisfying and hard to share.

Cocktails, Drinks and Sunset Hours

The drinks list at The Laneway Burleigh is just as considered as the food. The signature Burleigh in Bloom cocktail blends vodka, watermelon liqueur, rose syrup, watermelon juice and lime. It’s light, refreshing and dangerously drinkable.

Sunset Hours run Wednesday to Sunday from 2pm to 5pm. They’re designed for easy afternoons and relaxed catch-ups, whether you want a drink before dinner or a long stay that rolls into the night. There’s no rush here, just the kind of slow, golden Burleigh afternoon the suburb does so well.
